A New Well House

In the late summer of 2024, we started experiencing well issues.  Our water supply would intermittently cut out and we'd be left high and dry.  The cure, for a while, was to go out to the well house and push a red reset button.  That would give the pump life again, but gradually the interruptions in service become more common, and eventually the reset no longer worked.   We ended up calling a professional, and he found the problem with the electrical line.  Fortunately, that was relatively inexpensive, and we were soon back in business.

Done!

This one felt more consequential.  I wonder if, as you get older, these things mean more.  I'm just glad I got my choice recorded.  There's something to be said for taking part in the exercise.

So, I tried to paint like Wayne

So recently I've been looking at a lot of Wayne Thiebaud work.  I love his paintings.  The sumptuousness and the beautiful colors are exactly right for the subject matter.  His pies and cakes are wonderful.  His figurative work reveals a master level understanding of form and color.  So, I thought, why not emulate the style, but in my own choice of subject?  Clearly, I didn't come close to Thiebaud's work, after all, he had been doing it for a long time, and his genius is his own.  I did, however, have a great time trying, and I've been wanting to paint these five cows for a long time.  It was a fun attempt, and I learned a lot from the process of studying him and trying to recreate the fun of seeing a painting of his in "real life".  I urge anyone not familiar with this great artist to go see his work when you can.  It's a joyful experience.
